Browser based vehicle calibration editing software
Speedweaver wanted a SaaS web application that accepts a binary file from an ECU, matches this against a definition file and then determines all the relevant parts of the file which would be required to make modifications to provide value for enthusiasts.
Background
Building on our extensive experience with ECU file detection projects, particularly our collaboration with PrecisionCodeWorks (PCW), we identified a significant opportunity to empower users to modify their own ECU files. Our goal was to reduce the workload on specialist engineers who were manually calibrating client ECU files.
We began by prototyping an automated solution, iterating through several versions of file detection and parsing. Our early successes gave us confidence in our ability to deliver a robust solution that could meet the needs of both professional calibrators and automotive enthusiasts.
What we did
Following the successful prototyping phase, we conducted multiple design workshops with the client to identify and prioritize the features that would deliver the greatest impact with the least development effort. Our focus was on creating a SaaS product structured as a subscription service catering to two main user groups:
Professional Subscription
This subscription tier was designed for professionals providing engine calibration services to clients. It offered unlimited use for a fixed cost, making it an attractive option for businesses with high usage needs.
Enthusiast Subscription
Targeted at individual enthusiasts who tinker with their own vehicles or those of friends and family, this tier featured a small monthly fee to retain projects and use the editor. Additionally, micro charges were applied for access to predefined calibrations, offering flexibility and affordability.
Result
The project was an outstanding success. Users highly appreciated the product's design and ease of use, leading to consistent daily subscriptions. Our approach not only met but exceeded client expectations.
Within the first three months of launch, Speedweaver generated over €30,000 per month in subscription fees. This impressive revenue growth continues to climb, showcasing the product's strong market fit and customer satisfaction.
